WHO WE ARE

Five Corners Collective was founded by graduates of the University of Hartford’s MFA program in photography who wanted to share their creative passion and knowledge with others.

  • Amy Lowey

    BOARD MEMBER & TEACHING ARTIST

    Based in Connecticut, Amy has an extensive teaching background. She is a former New York City public school teacher and designed and taught art programs in the Monmouth County, New Jersey public schools. In her most recent photographic project, Archive of Longing, Amy documents the woods near her home, while exploring themes of loss, freedom, hope and intimacy. Amy has exhibited extensively throughout the United States.

  • Josee Schryer

    TEACHING ARTIST

    Jo is a visual artist based in Montréal, Quebec. She teaches photography, storytelling and bookmaking at Université de Sherbrooke. Her own photography navigates the idea of landscape, territory and attachment to place and explores her interests in traditions and folklore. Jo’s work has been exhibited internationally and featured in numerous online publications. Her first monograph, sur-la-Rouge, was published by Peperoni Books in 2016. She is a co-founder of the Photobook Club Montréal, a community dedicated to photobook analysis and appreciation.

  • Nicole Rosenthal

    BOARD MEMBER & TEACHING ARTIST

    Nicole is a photographer and teaching artist based in New York City.   In the 1990s and early aughts, Nicole worked as an editorial photographer, regularly contributing portraits and photo illustrations to national print magazines. Since earning her MFA in 2016, Nicole focus is on teaching and long form photography projects that explore place, journey, and the encounter.

  • Robin Dahlberg

    BOARD MEMBER & TEACHING ARTIST

    Robin is an award-winning visual storyteller and arts educator based in New York City. She has taught photography to people of various ages at schools and community centers throughout the New York area. With a background in law and social justice, Robin uses her camera to explore issues of identity, place and resilience. Her first photobook, Billable Hours in 6-minute increments, is a humorous look at the role of women in large corporate environments and was recently published by Daylight Publishing.

  • Sanne Vils Axelsen

    BOARD MEMBER & TEACHING ARTIST

    Sanne is a photographer based in Copenhagen, Denmark. She has worked as a freelance photographer since graduating from The Danish School of Media and Journalism in 2010.  She teaches storytelling through photography to American college students at DIS Copenhagen during their study abroad semester.

  • Veronica Melendez

    TEACHING ARTIST

    Veronica is a visual artist based in Washington D.C. and New York.  She is a member of the faculty at Hampshire College and founder of La Horchata, an arts publication highlighting the work of creatives from Central America and the Central American diaspora. Her personal work examines how we, as humans, create home. She draws upon her upbringing in one of the United States’ largest Central American communities to give a platform to voices that are often marginalized and to remind us of the importance of culture and representation in art.
